Autism Awareness

Hi everyone, when the wonderful RJ Scott first contacted me about what she was doing to help raise awareness for Autism, during the month of April, my immediate response was count me in. This is such a great cause and the more awareness we bring to it the better it will be.

Then I started thinking. I’ve never actually been touched by Autism in my life. I’ve never known a child, an adult, a friend or a family member that has been diagnosed with Autism.  So what am I supposed to write about?

My thoughts were to give you a couple of facts about Autism in Australia. So here we go. This is what I have found.

One definition of Autism that I found is as follows: Autism Spectrum Disorders are a lifelong disabilities affecting 1 percent of Australians. People with Autism (80 percent of whom are male) typically display significant impairments in the areas of social interaction, communication and behaviour (limited interests and repetitive behaviours). Many people with an Autism Spectrum Disorder also have under or oversensitivity to sound, sight, taste, touch, smell, temperature and/or pain. People with Autism Spectrum Disorder may feel anxiety, confusion or frustration in dealing with the challenges of everyday life

Autism affects about 5 children per 10,000 in Australia. However, there is a concern that autism is being underdiagnosed and that the real rate may be as high as 60 children per 10,000.

Males are affected 4 times more commonly than females.

Blurb:

After five centuries, Merrick Winters is bored with life. He's tired of the same kind of men throwing themselves at him for either the chance to be in his bed or donate their blood. His coven is secure and his bar is a success. He needs a challenge. When he meets his mate, he's certain he's found just the challenge he was looking for.

Frankie Reynolds doesn't have time for an abusive man and he wishes his ex would get the message. After one night at Hot Encounters, he has both an ex and a master vampire who won't leave him alone. He doesn't mind the vampire so much, but this mate business is a whole different thing.

An amazing attraction makes their relationship inevitable, but uninvited visitors and a bad ex will put it to the test.

Excerpt:

"Can I get you a drink?" Merrick asked as Frankie slipped his hand out of Merrick's. The man was too smooth for his own good, and God, was he sexy. Frankie just wanted to lick him all over. He blushed when he realised he was licking his lips and staring at the V-neck of Merrick's shirt.

"No, thank you. I really need to get going. It's getting late." Frankie had no idea what time it was but knew he needed to get away from this gorgeous man before he threw himself at him. That really wasn't a good look for anybody, especially him.

"Nonsense, the night is young. Stay, have a drink with me, and we can talk some more. Plus, there is no way out," Merrick stated as he waved at the other end on the rounded booth to show the entrance blocked by Bryce and two other men.

"Thank you for your help with Peter earlier, but I really must be going. It was lovely to meet you, Merrick." Before anyone else in the booth knew what he was doing, Frankie stood up on his seat and walked across the table before jumping down and landing lightly on his feet.

Merrick flung his head back and laughed. "Oh, you are going to look so good by my side, sweetheart. I can't wait."

"Well, you're just going to have to." With that parting remark, Frankie turned and walked out of the club. And if he put a little extra sway in his hips, so what?
