Guest today - Vicktor Alexander

My good friend Vicktor Alexander stopped by to tell us a little about himself and his new release: The Besties.
Vic has kindly agreed to give away a copy of his book to one lucky person. Simply comment on the post and a winner will be drawn on Wednesday next week... Good luck to all.

Now over to Vicktor:

If you could be one of your characters - Who would you be? And why?
Hhhmmm. One of MY characters? I think I would choose Elian. That my next release. He comes from this family that doesn’t appreciate him but marries these three gorgeous men who want to do nothing more than love him and give him babies. He’s also a king, which I think is pretty damn awesome. I think I could do some serious good if I were a king, plus there would be a mandatory “Naked Day” and “Twink Day” which would both coincide with “Sexy Times Week.”
Do you prefer writing about perfect characters or flawed ones and why?
I prefer flawed characters. I don’t think I’ve ever written a perfect character. They all have problems. And if one of them seems perfect, then their partner is hopelessly flawed. Case in point, Devontae and Zander from A Tate Pack Memorial. Devontae was scarred from his time in the military and Zander was still reeling from the effects of his previous pack. I love the fact that flawed characters get to fall in love and have a happily ever after. Perfect people have enough of falling in love and everything in Hollywood movies and other books, but I like the thought that the cross-dressing survivor of an abusive relationship, disowned by his family finds the love of his life in an overgrown, emotionally constipated wolf-shifting cowboy from Wichita Falls, Texas (ie, Inconceivable, book two of the Tate Pack series).
Can you please give us an idea on what you are working on for the future?
Well THAT’S a loaded question! I have a WIP list that is over 250 titles long. But I can give you my most immediate list:
1.       Impossible, book six of the Tate Pack series.
2.      Mommy’s Name is Daddy Now
3.      Il Mio Amante Fa Tre, book one of the Ti Voglio Bene series
4.      Chain Me, prequel to The Dom series
5.      Untouchable, book seven of the Tate Pack series
6.      Daddy’s Boy
7.       Mark Me, The Dom series book one
8.      Damien & Roman: Forever (Book One)
9.      Super Gay (free read)
10.   Scent & Claim, book one of the Anime Gemella series
11.    Tabansi, The Marriage Groups
12.   Preston’s Teammates, book one of the Trapezians series
WHEW!!!
Which was harder to write, the sex scenes involving multiple partners or the scenes between two guys?

I honestly don’t find either difficult to write, but writing multiple partners is much easier for my overactive, hedonistic, polyamorous brain to write. Maybe it’s because I can always see myself in the scenes that I write and writing about having three or four other men for me to have my wicked way with gets me very turned on. Writing two guys I’m always thinking about the fact that there are at least three holes NOT being filled or used right then. LOL.

Do you have any favorite books or authors that you look to help inspire you to write?

Oh I have a lot. The authors that inspire me are the ones that I have found are good people in real life. They’re sweethearts, kind to their readers to fellow authors. They inspire me not just in writing but in being a good person. They are (in no particular order): Ally Blue, Stormy Glenn, Gabrielle Evans, Toni Griffin, Mary Calmes, Amy Lane, Andrew Grey, NJ Nielsen, Stephani Hecht, Rick R Reed, Anel Viz, Angel Martinez, Silvia Violet, Mathilde Watson, Freddy MacKay, Ariel Tachna, Jana Downs, Lor Rose, Patricia Royal, Tia Fielding, Carol Lynne, Jambrea Jo Jones, Ethan Day, Heidi Cullinan, Damon Suede, NR Walker, TA Chase, Devon Rhodes and Sue Brown. To name a few.

Can you tell us a little about how you started writing; was it something you have always wanted to do?

Funnily enough I wrote my first story: Lisa, The Bad Breath Monster, on a family road trip. I didn’t write it down and I was only ten years old at the time I believe, but it took me five hours to tell the story, I came up with it off the top of my head and I had my entire biological family laughing and enthralled as I talked about a monster named, Lisa, who destroyed the world with her breath. The next story I wrote I actually wrote down, it was called The Case of the Doll’s Eyes. It was a thriller about a little girl’s doll whose eyes come out and kill people every night. Freaked my biological siblings out and gave them nightmares (rubs hands together in evil delight). Then there was Summer Oaks, Chance & Fate Go To The Doctor, and God, Can You Help Me When I’m Lonely? All children’s books that I wrote for my younger cousin. I moved onto romance stories, erotic stories, etc. when I got into high school and wrote about my two best friends Angel and Justin hooking up. They proceeded to tell me that it was “physically impossible for a taller guy to fuck a really short guy, standing straight up without bending his knees even slightly and without using lube.”

I’ve always wanted to change the world, to save and help people. Writing is an unexpected talent and something that I see me being able to use to accomplish that goal. I love writing. I have a big of a God complex. I like creating worlds and people and scenarios and knowing how it’s all going to turn out. I love being able to write love stories or fiction stories where evil loses or is redeemed and love and goodness always triumphs, because it doesn’t always happen that way in real life. Even after my group home for at-risk teens of the GLBTQIA community is up and running, after my housing program for low-income families is established, after my charity to help third world countries is fully functional, I’ll still be writing and publishing books. It’s in my blood. I come from a long line of writers so that’s something that will never stop for me.

About My New Release:
Now available from The Rooster & The Pig Publishing: The Besties, which is a contemporary/romantic comedy/mm romance. I'm very excited about this! It was inspired by a conversation I had with editor, Kris Jacen (of MLR Books) about different marathons. She mentioned the Dirty Girl marathon that takes places in North Carolina and voila! The idea came to me. What if two girlfriends, who run the Dirty Girl race every year, hook up their best friend with a guy friend who runs in different marathons with them also? I could see the potential for hilarity, for awkwardness (what if the best friend is a virgin, with an anxiety disorder and really bad asthma?), and most importantly for love. The Besties is a result of that conversation.

You can pre-order it from Bookstrand and ARe here: Bookstrand/ARe and when it releases from Rainbow eBooks and on Kindle I will let you know right here.

Here's the cover, blurb and excerpt from The Besties:

Blurb:

Kelly Jeter is a 30-year old virgin who suffers from an acute shyness and extreme anxiety. He lives in Manhattan and collects lighthouses. He is the quintessential nerd. He also doesn't see how gorgeous he is, so when he meets Hawk Caliarchi, a friend of his besties, Krystal and Amy, he can't believe the hulking Greek man wants anything to do with him. So when Hawk shows an interest in him, Kelly does the only thing he can do... he has an asthma attack and almost passes out.
Hawk finally gets Kelly to agree to a date but before these two completely opposite men can settle down into a relationship, Hawk must face his past and Kelly must face his insecurities, fears and overcome his low self-esteem. Will he be able to conquer his battles before he loses Hawk for good and will he be able to thank his besties for introducing him to the love of his life?

Excerpt:

I had my arms around Amy, and Krystal stood cuddled up in Joel's arms when it happened. He walked over. I didn't know who he was at the time. All I knew was that a Greek god had descended and was now walking towards me, a gorgeous smile on his bronzed face and thick black hair blowing in the wind, ruffling his business-cut hair, his light brown eyes shining as he got closer to us. I saw Krystal look at me out of the corner of my eye before following the direction of my gaze. She let out a loud squeal and dashed out of Joel's arms towards the gorgeous stranger.

"Hawk!" she whooped before launching herself into his muscled arms. Amy shoved me away before dashing after Krystal and throwing herself into Hawk's arms as well. I watched in wonder as the tall, thick-muscled man lifted both of my friends into his arms and bounced them up and down, causing them to giggle like children before placing them back on their feet. What I wouldn't have given to bounce in his arms as well—though I'd prefer his cock to his arms.

"Wipe your face, you're drooling," Joel teased me, and I hurriedly wiped my chin, not surprised to find saliva there. "Holy shit, you really were drooling!"

I chuckled and could do nothing except nod my head. All of my brain cells had melted in the direction of my cock, which was even now jerking and leaking in my boxers. "He's just so fucking hot," I breathed, my breath catching in my lungs as Hawk walked towards us, his hands resting on Krystal and Amy's shoulders. They both only came up to his pecs, which meant I only came to his pecs as well. My ass clenched at the thought as I realized how much taller and broader that made him than me.

I was frozen in place, his gaze locked on mine as Krystal and Amy walked with him over to Joel and me. They couldn't be bringing him over to introduce him to us, could they? They wouldn't do that to me. Not when they both knew how shy I was, how I practically ended up in the hospital every time I tried to talk to a gorgeous man. Hawk was beyond gorgeous, however. He was a fucking god, and rather than wind up in the hospital from not being able to breathe, I would probably turn into a pillar of salt just from looking at him with lust.

Wait, I was thinking about biblical stories now? Yeah, my brain had completely melted.

I watched warily as Krystal and Amy brought Hawk directly to me with mischievous grins on their faces. "Kelly, this is Hawk Caliarchi. Hawk, this is our best friend Kelly Jeter, no relation to Derek," Krystal introduced us with a glint in her eyes.

"Hello, Kelly. It's nice to meet you," Hawk's voice was thunder wrapped in velvet and dipped in chocolate. I shivered and opened my mouth to respond. A squeak came out and my eyes snapped to Krystal's face. I felt my face flush in horror even as embarrassment and panic began to set in. What if Hawk was the one and I was too chicken shit, too nerdy, too... me, to grab onto him with both hands?

"Kelly? Calm down, honey. It's okay. Just don't freak out," Amy's voice came to me as if through a fog. Her tone was calm, peaceful, and soothing, but although it had worked when we were kids, now it only managed to heighten my awareness that I needed to be calm before I could speak like a normal human being.

My chest tightened and I struggled to pull air into my lungs. I could hear myself wheezing, feel my face flushing hot, and I mentally waved goodbye to ever having a chance with Hawk. Joel grabbed my arm and spoke frantically in my ear.

"Kel? Hey, buddy, where's your inhaler? I need to give you a puff of Albuterol."

That was Joel for you. Krystal and Amy would try and soothe me with their words, rubbing their hands on my arms and back, through my hair, trying to calm me with human touch while Joel went instantly for the medicine that would save my life. We were a well-oiled machine, and I wondered, briefly, what we looked like to Hawk. Would he see a family that had done this time and again and had all of the steps worked out, or would he see nothing but a short, skinny nerd who couldn't even talk to a man without almost collapsing from lack of oxygen?

"Kelly, I want you to listen to my voice," Hawk's voice penetrated the haze and I looked up, up, up into his gorgeous eyes. When had he moved to stand in front of me? Why was he trying to help? "Breathe with me, Kelly. When I inhale, I want you to inhale; when I exhale, I want you to exhale, alright?"

I nodded my head frantically, because it seemed the only thing I could do, and felt my friends step away as Hawk stepped closer to me. He cradled my face in his hands and stared down into my eyes.

"Ready? Inhale," Hawk instructed me before placing his hand on my chest. I inhaled with him, a deep inhale, and when he exhaled so did I. I was enraptured by him, by his strength, and I felt as if my lungs were connected to his as the tidal wave of panic began to recede and my breaths came easier. I continued to breathe with Hawk, who didn't stop breathing even when Joel came rushing back from the car with my back-up inhaler. My walking inhaler was in the pocket of the purple hoodie that I wore, but I'd been too distressed to tell him.

"Take two puffs of your inhaler," Hawk commanded, and I nodded that I understood before shaking the inhaler, pulling off the top and placing the puffer between my lips. Squeezing down on the barrel, I pulled the medication into my lungs and held it for twenty seconds before exhaling. Waiting thirty seconds, in which I continued to breathe with Hawk, I took another puff of my inhaler and finally, finally felt my lungs open fully, the panic all but disappear, and my embarrassment rush full-throttle over me.

"Nice to meet you, Hawk. My name's Kelly and I'm beyond embarrassed right now because I really wanted you to think I was sexy, not needy. You know, if you’re gay—"

Thanks Yvette! I've heard that my best friend Angel did a splendid job on the cover. I'm very proud of him.

Stormy! -clears throat- Sorry I had to fanboy for a second. I know I had fun writing it. It's one of those books of mine that I can actually read without wanting to rewrite the entire thing.

I just loved this book! I would love to see more of these type of characters. I couldn't put the book and would start it close to dinner time so I had my husband order pizza. LOL. Please don't enter me in the contest since I already have it just wanted to let Vicktor know how much I enjoyed it.

Linda, I'm sooo glad you liked the book! I think it's funny that you had your husband order a pizza because you didn't want to stop reading it. I finished this book at GRL last year and I didn't go down to visit with others because I was writing and I just ordered room service instead of stopping as well.

It's amusing that you have me in your lists of sweethearts because right before I read your guest post, I was discussing with a friend how heartless I am. LOL

Vicktor Alexander said...

LOL! You're not heartless to me though.

Aawww thanks Kylia! I think my WIPs sound pretty cool too. Then again I'm biased. I did promise Toni that I would get Chain Me and Mark Me out this year though. LOL.

Great interview and lovely blurb. Thank you! I really would love to see more books with characters who have chronic illnesses. We are tough, and have to have a pretty good sense of humor! Thanks for featuring such a character, can't wait to read this!

It's no problem Urb! I'm glad that the story is being met with such positive responses. I know all about chronic illnesses and as they say that life imitates art, I'm making my "art" imitate life. I hope you enjoy the book!
